What is gEDA?

The gEDA project has produced and continues working on a full GPL'd suite of Electronic Design Automation tools. These tools are used for electrical circuit design, schematic capture, simulation, prototyping, and production. Currently, the gEDA project offers a mature suite of free software applications for electronics design, including schematic capture, attribute management, bill of materials (BOM) generation, netlisting into over 20 netlist formats, analog and digital simulation, and printed circuit board (PCB) layout.

The gEDA project was started because of the lack of free EDA tools for UNIX. The tools are being developed mainly on GNU/Linux machines, but considerable effort is being made to make sure that gEDA runs on other UNIX variants. For a complete list of freely available tools please be sure to visit Open Collector.

Google Summer of Code 2008!

The gEDA project has been accepted into this year's Google Summer of Code (GSoC) as a mentoring organization! The gEDA project is excited to have this opportunity again (second year for gEDA in GSoc!) and thanks Google for investing in and organizing the GSoC program. Students and mentors, please visit the gEDA GSoC 2008 page. Project ideas and suggestions can be found on the project page. Here is an announcement flyer describing gEDA and GSoC 2008.

New users

Please read the FAQ and this tutorial. For even more information on installing and using gEDA, please look at the gEDA Wiki. To get up and running as fast as possible, new users should install the gEDA Suite CDROM, which can be obtained from the download page.

Featured Free Hardware Projects (FFHP):

DJ's Streaming Alarm Clock. This project was completely designed using the gEDA tools and took second place in the Microchip 16-Bit Embedded Control 2007 design contest as well as winning a subcategory prize: Connected (Communications) Applications!
