I tried it and as far as I can tell it works very nice.  I also 
didn't notice any problems with gschem with your patches applied.

One thing though, component-library-command should really print
warning or something if the script doesn't have executable bit
set. It took me several minutes to find out why it didn't work
(yes, I know I should have read the comments better...).
