A recent magazine had a programmable power supply you could use for
simulating brown-outs, glitches, etc. You could also do a controlled
smoke test by pulsing the power and measuring the amperage, or slowly
ramp up or down the power to test other things.
Plus, you get to measure volts and amps in real time, test for load
response, etc.
