	Just as a data point, this is how gEDA/gaf has been operating
for many years without any problems.  Having the auto* chain installed
(for developers) has always been a requirement and far out weighs the
pain that goes with having developers checkin different versions of the
machine generated files.  Been there, not doing that ever again.
