I actually have been keeping in the back of my mind the possibility of
designing a hardware accelerator--A PCI card with a PCI interface chip,
some memory, and some gate arrays programmed to be a simulation engine.

The assembled hardware (and a small profit:-) would probably cost a
lot less then what people already pay for software only solutions,
Picture Elements even has some cards that can be adapted to do exactly
this.

Of course, this is currently way, way, waaay down the road. Still,
I think it's a pretty kool idea. (Any grad students looking for a
thesis subject?-)
