I haven't started to use gschem (yet), but I routinely do board level
schematics with 500-750 components.

Also, a longer term thing I want to look into is using gschem for IC
schematics since I can write netlist modules to target whatever I need
(simulator, lvs, etc).  That of course will produce many, many more
components.
