Electric manages to compile both ways, with a pretty wide range
of tools/features. You might want to have a look at how Steve
Rubin handled the X * Windows duality.
Being able to take the design tool along on the company issued
laptop is something I'd consider a big plus. Our PC bureaucracy
doesn't like users stuffing Linux installations onto "their"
property.
I have 4 PCs and only one runs Linux (X universality is only
for those who didn't get a machine with the wrong video card).
When I'm inside the tool, I don't care what the OS is, until
the session crashes. For schematic doodling, which isn't all that
taxing, I couldn't care less.
For a real hair-puller, let's see you run your Windows port of
gEDA under WINE ;)
