RE: gEDA: design decisions: PCB<->schematic (OT)

Hi Xtian -
Well, the short answer is that orcad capture does not work well at all for the type of designs we do. orcad does not handle libraries correctly and has other defects related to the handling of busses and properties. It handles hierarchy clumsily. Also, as a schematic editor capture is very limited in it's feature set. Try, for example to change the justification of text (can't be done). Basically orcad is a shrink-wrapped personal productivity which works OK for small, low complexity designs done by one person who does not ever want to script repetitive tasks. Yes I know lot's of people use it - I do because I have to. I haven't used orcad layout for PCB design, so I can't comment on that tool.
