Honor to you, and shame to Debian. I have been using Debian for about half a
year now because I had some problem with compiling stuff under Suse 7.3 and
decided to try Debian, as it is supposed to be so developer friendly. In my
opinion it is not. The release policy of Debian is the biggest reason to use
something else, and if you want to follow the bleeding edge, you suddenly
find yourself spending more time on looking for .deb repositories than
actually using your computer for work.
This is not the place to rant about Debian, but I installed Debian to compile
geda, because it was supposed to be 'the best distribution for developers'.
I'm not sure if I'd support that claim.
