The discussion wraps itself around strengths and challenges of "free 
software", giving us glimpses
from many viewpoints of where the value add obtains.  Some hints are 
more subtle ("my company
abandoned gEDA") and some more direct ("Eagle CAD are pretty solid and 
remarkably cheap").
There is a cost either way; the cost of "free software" appeals to me as 
it is a growth path I chose.

My wife prefers Windoze or MAC, as the cost is mere money.

It is clear that wider usage will occur at lower cost -- the 
supply-demand equation remains in force.
Hence the interest in cleaner, simpler installs, or Karel's cleaner, 
more self-consistent instructions.
(By the way, Karel, "it's" is a contraction for "it is.  The correct 
word on your remarkably clear
instruction pages is "its").  This lowers the cost, increasing the 
demand (the supply is, of course,
infinitely elastic).
