I don't know. All I can say is that they were there before the
translation marks were added.

I think this file is hand-made but it is only a matter of a few scheme
lines of code to dump the menu names (for example by modifying the
system-gschemrc file to rewrite the add-menu procedure). I have now
updated rcstrings.nw.

My opinion is that we should do #3: only messages that are displayed
in the log message dialog or written to log file has to be
translated. Other messages are of no use to the end user: knowing
object is NULL in a particular function is of little interest for
him/her. These are typically messages for developers, not users.
And I would suggest changing some (most?) to use GLib debugging
functions like g_return_if_fail() instead.
However it is now too late for this version: we have to keep the
number of changes as low as possible until the release.
To all people involved in the various translations of gschem, you now
have the opportunity to update your favorite language for the future
release of gschem. But understand you have very little time (I don't
know how much as I don't know of Ales's current schedule for the
release).
