gEDA-dev: flicker when opening up schematics using File/Open...

Hi All,

	I've noticed today after the rash of maximize, extents, etc...
patches, that when I:

1) Run gschem  (no filenames)
2) Open a non-trivial schematic (like gschem/examples/drawing_primitives.sch)

I observe the schematic being drawn multiple times and flickering.
Back in the beginning of time, I went through hell and back to make
sure that schematics were rendered once when opened for the first time.
Any chance we could keep all the nice bug fixes and maintain this
behavior?  I take full responsibility for creating any silly code that
make this impossible. :)  Maybe it's been doing this for a while now, but
I just noticed this today.
