Being thicker annulus on the trace side takes up board area -- teardrops don't.

Short fat segments that add to the line that exits the via would allow layout 
interleaving without losing board space.  If the auto generated segments were 
shown as lines are drawn, similarly to line bends and their optional other 
direction that updates immediately as one pushes the shift key or not, we could 
often include them at no space penalty.

Your arc based teardrops are great-looking.  Are they hard to specify?  Fat line 
segment "sounds" much easier.

Perhaps instead of these being as you draw things, we could make a user 
scriptable autorouter control do them as a post route process.

The arc ones especially would stay out of the way of other vias and traces 
already existing.
