Actually, I did double check all components with more than two pins on
my circuit (in fact I have made local versions of GSchem symbols for
most of them them).

But signal diodes are such basic elements that I completely overlooked
the fact that there could be an inconsistency between GSchem and PCB. I
also do not see any particular reason why this must be so... a diode has
only two pins! It can either be right or wrong.

I was taught that smart engineers invent tools that do repetitious tasks
instead of them. Checking pinout of every element (even one as simple as
a diode) on a circuit against a datasheet is certainly a task that is
unnecessary if you have the correct tool.
