Peter's mails are PGP signed, so the signed portion is encapsulated.
Your mailer just isn't aware of the signing wrapper, or at least isn't
blindly finding the text/plain portion of a multipart message.

For reference, this is what I see, starting with the relevent email
headers:

Content-Type: multipart/mixed; boundary="===============4977171460096764870=="
Mime-version: 1.0

--===============4977171460096764870==
Content-Type: multipart/signed; boundary="nextPart10603207.UQc3fZbxZ9";
	protocol="application/pgp-signature"; micalg=pgp-sha1
Content-Transfer-Encoding: 7bit

--nextPart10603207.UQc3fZbxZ9
Content-Type: text/plain;
  charset="iso-8859-1"
Content-Disposition: inline
